Piggy backing onto this to say that the stereotype that guns are for men, are a manly thing, and women are too weak to use them is complete bull. If anything, guns are an equalizer for physical differences. A woman with a gun can do just much damage as a guy with a gun.
The biggest problem surrounding guns&women is the stereotype that women cannot handle the recoil of guns, due to physical inferiority. This is incorrect. Videos all over Youtube show women in various ingratiating positions after suffering from the shock of a recoiling shotgun, but the reason for their inability to react correctly is not due simply to weakness. Men can suffer the EXACT SAME results. The trick is in body position. Many women are not taught this by their SO’s because they are just brought along for the heck of it and are not trained seriously in how to properly handle a firearm. Basically all these “funny” fail videos depict a woman with horrible posture, leaning backwards and holding the gun wrong. If they simply lean forward, they will have already strengthened themselves against the recoil much more effectively than a “buff man” leaning in the same position as the individuals with the backwards leaning posture.
tl;dr: women seen as incapable of handling firearms because of strength, and are subsequently half-assedly trained, then become incapable of handling firearms because of training.
